Life in Kirksville
Kirksville is the county seat of Adair County. It is located in northeast Missouri and has a population of about 17,000 people. Kirksville is home to Truman State University, Missouri’s premier liberal arts and sciences university. From August to May, 6,000 college students from around the country (and around the world) call Kirksville their home.
Kirksville is also home to the founding school of osteopathic medicine. The Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, part of A.T. Still University, trains some of the finest doctors in the country. KCOM graduates account for approximately a quarter of all practicing osteopathic physicians in the world. As a result, healthcare in Kirksville is excellent.
Thousand Hills State Park, one of the most visited state parks in Missouri, is just outside the city limits. The Park is popular with students on the week. You can study at a picnic table by the lake, rent boats and canoes, or go for a swim at the beach.
